SPARROW FEST
Sunday 29th May ~ Sparrow fest
Sunday 29th May will see the very first Sparrow Fest. Live acts and DJs playing on both levels of the Pub and also (weather permitting) in the outside beer garden. There will also be a Barbeque if the sun shines on the day!
www.glasgowmusic.co.uk has been running a series of live stripped back, acoustic and electro shows at the Black Sparrow on Charing Cross on weekly Thursday nights. The festival is going to be in a similar vein of bands stripped back and a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
We are delighted to announce the line-up for the 29th May and are very excited that there will be something for everyone.
Piano led First Charge of the Light Brigade draw comparisons to Wilco and are growing a larger fan base by the gig. Passionate and intense performer and recent Scottish Alternative Music Award winner for Best Acoustic Alan McKim will whip you into a frenzy. Lady Gaga-esque pop tunes with Burlesque dancers with Miss Baudelaire. joyous harmonious pop ditties from Sonny Marvello. Former Ronelle’s front man Raymond Meade will be giving us acoustic tunes from his extensive and excellent back catalogue. Liam Cairns sings folk songs of optimism. DJ, open Mic host, singer songwriter, Gerry Lyons will show no end to his musical output. Once BBC jazz musician of the year finalist Jonathan Carr will bring his R&B and Soul style tunes to the party.
When the live music finishes, the DJs will start, a concept of old stalwarts versus the new breed. Upstairs as chosen by Dave Ross will see Mash, Dave Ross, Gerry Lyons, and Stevie Elements spinning some vinyl tunes. Downstairs chosen by Craig McGee will feature himself plus Jay Allan, Leanne Scott, Niteworks, Xavia and Murray Easton (Everything Flows).
Dave Ross has requested that the older generation get the upstairs bar in which to showcase their style, Craig thinks this is because “they will find the stairs tricky to negotiate….”
Craig Commented “The idea came about after I used the Black Sparrow as part of the recent Acoustoblaster tour; I thought the outside area would be perfect.” Dave also added “It was something we wanted to do for a while and I think it’s a great concept.”
The best part of it all; in keeping with the Thursday nights this whole event is FREE entry!
