The Ross Theatre (aka the Ross Band Stand) is the outdoor concert venue, with a capacity of 2000, in West Princes Street Gardens. The venue has an impressive backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and the green hilly area of Edinburgh Castle Gardens.

The current Ross Band Stand and terraced area was developed in 1935. The original facility on the site was a bandstand, built in 1877, gifted to the City by William Henry Ross, Chairman of the Distillers Company Ltd.

SEED

Seed were formed in late 2011 from the remains of various bands and are currently gathering a strong Glasgow following. The band combine folk music with alternative rock to create their self proclaimed genre of Organic Banjo Rock. 2 vocalists playing acoustic guitar and banjo are backed up by a solid drum and bass rhythm section to create a unique sound. The band are influened from Neil Young, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Led Zeppelin plus many more. The band were featured on Radio 1 show Introducing before they had even played a gig due to the strength of self recorded demo The River. They have since featured on the show again and had airplay on a few others. In April 2012 the band launched their self-recorded EP Shackland Sessions and made their King Tuts Wah Wah Hut debut to a strong crowd. They were soon asked back to play King Tuts Summer Nights festival on 14th July 2012. August is set to be a busy month for Seed with 3 of the 4 members performing as part of rock musical The 27 Club at the Edinburgh Festival which will feature Seed song The River. With various festival bookings on the horizon, September will also be a busy one. The band are currently working on new material, some of which will be showcased at King Tuts and free download singles are in the pipeline.

JOHNNY BARR

Johnny Barr is a Paisley based singer/songwriter who is currently studying Popular Music at Leeds College of Music, specialising in songwriting. Frequently gigging with his own 6-piece band, Johnny’s unique combination of percussive guitar technique and intricate finger picking makes him an exciting act to watch, especially when this is paired with his effortlessly exhilarating stage presence. 2011 was a superb year for Johnny. He was featured on Radio 1’s BBC Scotland Introducing with DJ Ally Mcrae, and supported a number of upcoming acts such as The Staves, Admiral Fallow, Sucioperro, Aerials up, Alan Mckim and Lynnie Carson. 2011 also saw Johnny headline Glasgow’s King Tuts for the first time, where he also played last January as part of the venue’s New Year’s Revolution festival. Johnny aims to keep up momentum already generated this year through numerous well-received shows with the release of his debut album this summer. Watch this space!
