“Coffee house brings new music festival to Ayr”

The Basement Coffee House, recently named Scotland’s Best Small Music Venue by NME Magazine, is launching its own music festival this September. The event, titled ‘Wired’ will run for 12 hours over two floors at the venue and involves 27 bands.

Owner Erika Sionis sees a bright future,
“To be involved in the NME poll was a huge boost for us. We only opened last September and it’s all happened very quickly. Wired is set on our first birthday and its really aiming to thank all those who have been involved in the Basement so far. With 27 bands from across the UK, drinks promos and food on all day it should be a really special day for us as well as the local music scene.”

Dean Darkie, booker for Wired explained his philosophy for the event
“Our aim for Wired is to keep it as fresh as possible. Two of our headliners Alarm Bells and Arches formed less than two years ago but are making big waves in the Scottish scene already. There’s a huge variety in the event with ska punk from the Hostiles, 60s style rock ‘n’ roll from Soldier On, folk from Brave Young Red, prog rock from Jiezuberband and much more in there too. What all the acts have in common for me is that they’re all exciting and original music artists with someone to say.”

Erika:
“As well as celebrating the Basement’s birthday, we’re hoping Wired will be the start of something new too. Our new upstairs venue ‘the Apartment’ is also going to be launched at ‘Wired.’ We’re aiming for a bigger and better event next year with more people involved. We’ve achieved so much already, the sky’s the limit.”

‘Wired’ takes place on September 21st at the Basement Coffee House, Ayr. Tickets are available for £10 from the Basement, Ayr Guitar and Big Sparra Vinyl in Ayr. Read more at www.facebook.com/wiredayr
