DETAILS OF THE 2013 SCOTTISH JAZZ AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Scottish Jazz Awards return with a new date and a new venue for the high profile presentation ceremony of this important event on the Scottish arts calendar.

Reflecting the internationally recognised quality, strength and diversity of the home-grown jazz scene, these awards acknowledge the talent and application of singers, musicians and ensembles in live performances and recordings. They also reward promoters, events, advocates for the music and supporters in the media.

Nominations can be made online now at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SJANominate2013  with a deadline of  Friday 20th September at 12 noon and an independent adjudicator will oversee the nomination and voting process. A long list of nominees will be published online during the week beginning 23rd September and a panel of industry professionals will then meet and select their top three from the long list and also decide upon a winner in each category. The final short list will be published online during the week beginning 9th October together with a list of the panellists.

The general public will have the opportunity to vote for Best Album from the short list selected by the panel between 9th October at 10am and 11th October at 5pm.

This year’s presentation ceremony takes place at a red carpet event at Dirty Martini in Le Monde, George Street, Edinburgh on 21st October with music from a house trio featuring pianist Brian Kellock, bassist Mario Caribe and drummer, and Scottish Young Musician of the Year 2013 finalist, Mark Scobbie and special guests.

Cathie Rae, director of the awards’ co-organisers, the Scottish Jazz Federation, said: “The Scottish Jazz Awards create a high profile event that brings jazz in Scotland to the attention of the media and the public, both here in Scotland and the UK and across the wider international arena. We are extremely proud of the quality of the music that’s being created here and is recognised through performances in the U.S. and Europe and we want to celebrate the excellence of our jazz scene as loudly as possible.”

A limited number of tickets for the Awards will be available soon. For further information and updates, please go to the Scottish Jazz Federation website at www.scottishjazzfederation.com and you can also join us on Facebook: facebook.com/scottishjazz.federation and Twitter: @ScottishJazzFed
