Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland announces The Big Apple Award 2013!

Renowned music therapy charity Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland and Creative Scotland have teamed up yet again to launch the once in a lifetime opportunity for a new and emerging Scottish act to win The Big Apple Award. The winning act will perform in New York City at a show during Scotland Week 2014.

Acts that enter will be short-listed by a panel of music industry experts with the top five selected acts performing to our expert panel at the grand final at The Garage, Glasgow this December 11th. The panel will decide and announce the winner that evening (panel to be announced shortly). The Garage has previously played host to top international acts including Prince, Moby and Muse amongst others.

The winning act will then have a few months to get every note right before being flown out to New York in April 2014. Following this, the winner will then be booked by Nordoff-Robbins Scotland to perform in front of the stars at the Scottish Music Awards in November 2014.

Donald MacLeod, Chairman of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland’s Fundraising Committee and owner of renowned live music venues The Garage and The Cathouse revealed, "We are delighted to be working alongside Creative Scotland to provide this fantastic opportunity for an up and coming Scottish act to play in New York City. The calibre of last year’s entries proved that there is a wealth of talent out there and Stanley Odd were very worthy winners. I am looking forward to finding another excellent act to showcase to the greatest city in the world."

Dave Hook AKA Solareye from last years Award winning band Stanley Odd said, "Winning the Creative Scotland Big Apple Award was both an amazing honour and a fantastic opportunity. We ended up playing 7 gigs in 7 days while in New York during Scotland Week and winning the award enabled us to do that, build and expand our fanbase in America and has also had a very positive effect on our profile and audience in the UK. Nordoff Robbins Scotland provided us with a platform from which to further develop and the whole trip was an outstanding experience."

Caroline Parkinson, Director of Creative Development for Creative Scotland, said:

"Its great to be partnering once again with Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland on the Big Apple Award. The award is an important showcase of our musical talent at home as well as an exciting opportunity for one of Scotland’s emerging acts to perform in New York. Scotland has a wealth of musical talent so I’m sure there will be no shortage of talented acts keen to apply."

The competition is open to new and emerging Scottish acts only, please see competition terms & conditions for full criteria. Artists should submit two songs and complete the artist questionnaire at: www.nordoffrobbinsscotland.org.uk/bigappleaward. The closing date for entries is 9am on Monday 2nd December.
