THE 1975 HEADLINED SCOTLAND....

Glasgow Summer Sessions 2019 closed in truly spectacular fashion this evening, with a career-defining headline set from band of the moment The 1975 plus energetic performances from five of the UKs hottest acts including hometown heroes Twin Atlantic, plus You Me At Six, Pale Waves, Ten Tonnes and No Rome on an incredibly sunny and warm Sunday in Glasgow...

After a whirlwind year that has taken them all across the globe, BRIT Award winners The 1975 returned to Scotland to deliver one of the most ambitious, visually inspiring shows the festival has witnessed, reinforcing their status as one of the biggest bands on the planet right now. Performing brand new punk-rock track People plus festival bangers including TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME, Its Not Living (If Its Not With You) and debut album classics Chocolate and Sex, frontman Matty Healy said "This is really special for us, its very representative of how far weve come in a really short space of time. Im glad were here, youre always the loudest audience."

The party got well and truly started earlier this afternoon with an incredible supporting line-up featuring some of the hottest emerging acts on the planet including the Manila-born popstar-in waiting No Rome. Signed to The 1975s Dirty Hit label, the rising star opened the days events with a flurry of material from his recent EP Crying in the Prettiest Places which certainly lived up to his growing hype. Playing hot tracks to mirror the warm weather, No Romes set included opener Do It Again, plus Stoned In The Valley, 5 Ways to Bleach Your Hair and the epic closing track Narcissist which was recorded with The 1975.

Ten Tonnes proved that hes well on his way to following in his brother George Ezras footsteps with a jubilant set that delved into his recently released debut album. After a huge sell out show at King Tuts earlier this year, plus a recent showing in Glasgows St Lukes, the Glasgow crowd welcomed Ten Tonnes back with open arms. His set was bursting with infectious hooks, chant worthy choruses and buoyant lyrics including opener Born To Lose, plus Lay It On Me, Better Than Me and the huge closing tune Lucy. Ten Tonnes well and truly brought the sound of summer to Bellahouston Park and went down a treat with the Glasgow Summer Sessions Festival crowd as he said, "Its a pleasure to be here! Look at this glorious weather, what a treat!"

Then The 1975s label mates Pale Waves brought their shimmering, hugely infectious brand of indie-pop to the stage. Having joined The 1975 at their shows all over the world, the band have now cultivated their own loyal fanbase and it showed, as thousands sang along to massive hits like Eighteen, Television Romance and their breakthrough debut single Theres a Honey. Living up to their reputation as one of the most electrifying bands in pop right now, it was a set that sees them well on the way to potential headliners of the future. Frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie said, "Glasgow how you feeling?! You Scots are my favourite!"

From pop-punk upstarts to rock star heavyweights, You Me At Six made a welcome return to Scottish soil with six full-length albums to their name, the band performed highlights from last years VI before sending fans on a nostalgia trip with some of their most popular pop-punk anthems from over the years such as Fast Foward, Underdog and Take the World. A band who have outlasted so many of their contemporaries, they still a hold a very special place in the heart of Scottish music fans who lapped up every minute of their thunderous set, closing with Room To Breathe.

Frontman Josh Franceschi, "We love this place - we came here to have a good time!"

After an unforgettable set at last years festival, hometown heroes Twin Atlantic returned to take the penultimate slot. Brimming with confidence and bravado, the four-piece arrived raring to go and brought one massive anthem after another from their Glasgow-inspired album GLA as well as crowd favourites No Sleep, The Chaser and Hold On, with fellow Summer Sessions acts The 1975 and You Me At Six watching from the side of stage. Clearly glad to be home, and with his newborn baby side of stage attending her first rock concert, Sam McTrusty didnt hesitate to get up close and personal with the Glasgow crowd saying "Its amazing to be home. Thats how its done Reading and Leeds - welcome to Glasgow!"

It was then time for the most eagerly anticipated band of the day – The 1975. Fresh from huge headline performances at Reading & Leeds on Friday and Saturday, tonight it was all about Glasgow Summer Sessions and the band received an unbelievable welcome from the Scottish crowd as they made their way onto the stage and opened the gig with latest track People, Give Yourself A Try and TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME. Frontman Matty Healy was as charismatic as ever, his sharp and timely lyrics promoting self-love, acceptance and inclusivity, rapturously sung back word-for-word by the devoted crowd.

With a set mixing newer tracks with old favourites, The 1975 matched their massive pop hits with spectacular visuals, creating one of the most ambitious and culturally significant performances Bellahouston Park has ever seen.

Living up to their reputation as one of the biggest bands in the country, they sent the crowd wild with a euphoric finale featuring Chocolate, Sex and The Sound, ensuring Glasgow Summer Sessions 2019 went out on an all-time high.
