Iconic legend Hugh Reed will burst back onto the live scene on Friday 20th August at The Pandora, Southside, Glasgow after a large hiatus in China of all places. I caught up with Hugh where he said I lived in Beijing for a while but I now live under the corrupt regime known as `Glasgow City Council`

Hugh Reed gained a cult following in the 90`s with songs such as `Smells Like Troon Harbour`, `Car Nicked` and the outrageously catchy `Irn Bru` that comes complete with a low budget video of comedy brilliance. His band, Hugh Reed & The Velvet Underpants toured all around Europe supporting the likes of Blondie, Simple Minds and The Fall. Fed up with people mistaking their name for a Lou Reed & Velvet Underground tribute band, Hugh started a new alias The Hugh Reed Explosion which headlined the likes of Half man Half Biscuit, Glass Onion (Who changed their name to Travis) and The Supernaturals. More recently, hey have supported Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian and appeared at the world famous Rockslide festival in Copenhagen.

Hugh told of the time The Scottish Government gave the band a lot of money to make an anti-drugs song which they obliged with the hilarious `Technodrugs` which is a rave/pop mash up of epic proportions and it was accompanied by a brilliantly over the top video which (like most of their music) can be viewed on youtube.

Hugh`s music which can be best described as alternative, Experimental punk with a pop sensibility that really comes to life in the live environment. His shows always cause a stir and have been known to feature special guests from celebrities to Henry the Hoover and Strathclyde police. Without giving too much away the audience may need an umbrella at one point during the show and he has also been known to cello tape the crowd together. He promises a `Belter of a show` next week We have a few surprises up our sleeve and we`re delighted to have The Girobabies on board as our special guests to warm the crowd up Best of all the gig is free entry but because its The Hugh Reed Explosions local it makes sense to get their early to avoid disappointment to see a unique cult legends doing what they do best.
