Get ready for a series of must-see gigs as Sailor Jerry announces the first Sailor Jerry Presents shows of the year, featuring Leeds-based rock foursome Pulled Apart By Horses headlining Jam in Brighton on Thursday 28th April and Reading rockers Pete and the Pirates headlining Stereo in Glasgow on Friday 27th May.
Tickets to both shows cost £5 (with no booking fee) and will be available at www.sailorjerry.co.uk from Friday 18th March from 9.00am. Sailor Jerry Presents will also visit London, Manchester and Bristol with details to be announced.
The Brighton show will be headlined by Pulled Apart By Horses, a band renowned for their frenetic performances. Expect a chaotic and colourful show – perfect for Sailor Jerry fans, inspired by the originality of Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, who influenced an entire generation of tattoo artists and whose influence is still recognized today. The band has just released new single I Punched A Lion In The Throat, taken from their debut self-titled album last year. It promises to be one of the most talked about tracks in months. The band will also be playing a Sailor Jerry show at SXSW in Texas (date) As they set about making their name worldwide in 2011.
They will be joined on stage by Young Legionnaire, featuring Gordon Moakes (Bloc Party) and Paul Mullen, (The Automatic). They will be sure to get the crowd going at one of Brighton’s best loved venues for live music.
Headlining the second show in Glasgow will be five-piece Reading band, Pete and the Pirates, who have attracted a devoted cult following since releasing their debut album, ‘Little Death’ in 2008. The band are set to release new album ‘One Thousand Pictures’ in May, that features current single Come To The Bar - deemed “Hottest Record In The World by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1.
The band will join Pulled Apart By Horses at SXSW this year and will embark on a UK tour in April and May, however their appearance on the Sailor Jerry Presents stage will be their most intimate gig of the lot. Expect a unique performance on the night at Glasgow’s atmospheric Stereo bar with support acts to be announced soon.
While the bands unleash their musical prowess on stage, the discerning crowd will be invited to try out Sailor Jerry Spiced, which bears the signature of Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, celebrating the legendary man’s old-school values of independence, hard work, and unyielding standards of craftsmanship. The drink has stirred up a number of combinations including Sailor & ginger and Sailor & cola which will be on offer throughout the evening for the crowd to get stuck into.
The Sailor Jerry Presents music series follows a long association with music in the UK and the US where Sailor Jerry shows have boosted many up-and-coming bands. Sailor Jerry rum works with like-minded musicians and artists who share an approach to authenticity, dedication and non-conformist attitude. Pulled Apart By Horses and Pete and the Pirates join a list of bands who have performed in the past two years, including The Joy Formidable and Mystery Jets, who have since gone on to secure wider acclaim and critical success.
