Doune The Rabbit Hole festival!

Missed The Easter Bunny? Go Doune The Rabbit Hole this summer!

An intimate, family-friendly festival situated in the beautiful countryside at Old Newton, near Doune, Stirlingshire. Doune The Rabbit Hole returns for its second year, running over three days, June 10th, 11th and 12th.

A plethora of folk, indie and jazz acts will play on three stages over the weekend:

On Friday, highlights include: Glasgow indie-pop band Zoey Van Goey (just back from supporting Belle & Sebastian on tour); Glasgow’s premier reggae sound system Mungo’s Hi Fi and former Bhundu Boy Rise Kagona. In addition to previously announced acts, Friday night will be headlined by the Mercury-nominated avant-garde post-jazz band Polar Bear. Led by drummer Seb Rochford, the quintet have been highly acclaimed for their innovative live performances and for their 2010 album Peepers.

On Saturday, The Vaselines, Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee (reunited for last year’s Sex With An X - their first new album for over 20 years) headline. Also performing will be perennial Glasgow indie institutions BMX Bandits; singer-songwriter Nick Garrie (who will be performing his rarely aired The Nightmare Of JB Stanislas album with members of Trembling Bells for the first time) and folk troubadour Alasdair Roberts. Other up and coming Scottish acts include Remember Remember, Dam Mantle, Randolph’s Leap and Ben Butler & Mousepad.

On Sunday the line up includes Domino Records and Fence stalwart James Yorkston, who will be performing songs and also reading from his book, It’s Lovely To Be Here: The Touring Diaries Of A Scottish Gent. Fellow Fence Collective member Rozi Plain brings her ethereal vocals and deceptively gentle jams, and tribute band Them Beatles will be performing the Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band LP in full. Sunday also promises sets from guitarist RM Hubbert, psych-folk bands Broadcast 2000 and Trembling Bells, a headline set from Mike Heron, of seminal folkies The Incredible String Band.

The full line up of artists is included at the end of this release.

In addition to music there will be politics, philosophy and literature from spoken word performers including human rights campaigner Craig Murray and a talk on Charles Dickens and Scotland by Professor Grahame Smith. There’s comedy from stand ups including Vladimir McTavish and Keir McAllister, plus DJs, children’s theatre, art workshops, poetry, craft stalls, local ale, cider, organic food and much more in a relaxed, festive atmosphere.

Doune The Rabbit Hole is a not for profit enterprise which aims to bring art and music events to the community, with creative workshops planned for the future to benefit local residents. Festival Director Jamie Murray says, “Money raised from our Doune The Rabbit Hole events will go towards funding new workshops and classes which will teach young, disadvantaged people how to play an instrument, write, paint or do something creative.”
