The Dead Man’s Waltz release Fallow Fields on June 27th

Fallow Fields is the spirited, black-hearted second single from Isle of Skye wraiths The Dead Man’s Waltz.

you can check them out at a www.glasgowmusic.co.uk presents show at the Black Sparrow on the 23rd June.

A delirious, accordion-led track that veers and twirls like a wonky spinning-top, Fallow Fields follows eerie, yearning debut single Cry On Me and is another taster from the quartet’s forthcoming album, due for release later in the year.
Re-imagining the traditional music of their island home into a style they call folk-noir, The Dead Man’s Waltz follow a shadowy path through the cabaret of Weimar Germany to the louche basement bars of Tom Waits and The Pogues to the cavernous halls of more recent acts such as Yann Tiersen and Beirut. Lyrically, theirs is the stuff of netherworlds; of small-town crimes, seething menace and hidden romances. Like the solitary twinkling light coming from the house on the hill, you know you shouldn’t go there, but go there you must.

The Dead Man’s Waltz began as a project devised by multi-genre eccentrics Injuns, a band who, in the words of The List, “corral a disparate pic’n’mix into the kind of intelligently dumb nuggets of pop Mika could only pray for”. In 2008 Injuns devised Scary Love, a musical theatre piece, and were asked to conjure up a similar work for Aviemore’s inaugural Outsider Festival that year. After months of research and writing, The Dead Man’s Waltz materialized from the ether. Melding song, storytelling and film, the dead men performed at the Now Museum in 2009, a disused ice cream factory in Glasgow, under the tutelage of Dr William Johnstone, a somewhat shady scientist with uncertain intent.

Now set free from their bonds, they’re ready to loom and stagger through the land.
