‘The Big Dish’ have announced they are playing at The Darvel Music Festival on Saturday 5th May due to the sell out response to their forthcoming concert at Celtic Connections 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the band’s split.
The band line up will consist of Steven Lindsay - vocals and guitar, Brian Mcfie - guitar, Raymond Docherty - bass, Allan Dumbreck - keyboards and Ross McFarlane - drums.
Although a reunion had been rumoured over the years the band decided that now the time just seemed right.
The 3 studio albums - ‘Swimmer’, ‘Creeping up on Jesus’ and ‘Satelites’ produced such classic singles as ‘Big New Beginning’, ‘Slide’, and their biggest hit ‘Miss America’. The radio friendly nature of the singles ensured massive airwave coverage with the band also enjoying a cult following as well as favourable reviews from the critics and Steven Lindsay being hailed as one the greatest songwriters of his generation.
Virgin Universal also released a ‘best of’ album called ‘rich man’s wardrobe’.
There was and still is a substantial amount of respect and good will for The Big Dish within the music industry.
Since the split Steven Lindsay has released 2 massively acclaimed solo albums, collaborated with Lloyd Cole and Craig Armstrong and is now a successful painter.
With his guitar prowess Brian Mcfie has always been in demand working with Marianne Faithful, Stiltskin and The Bluebells amongst others, he is now a guitar tutor and painter. Raymond Docherty has forged a successful career in IT. Allan Dumbreck played keyboards with several bands and is now Head of Music at University of West of Scotland. Ross McFarlane plays drums for Texas and has worked with John Fratelli, The Proclaimers and Steven Lindsay on his solo work.
‘We are curious and excited about playing the songs again. It will be interesting to hear how age and the wisdom that comes with it will effect the sonic quality of the music’ – Steven Lindsay
The band will be playing what they consider to be the best of the 3 studio albums with some stripped down versions and a surprise cover.
