Walking Heads, the company dedicated to delivering specialist audio walking tours which explore the quirky side of cities and places have today (Monday, 30th January 2012) launched the very first music tour of Glasgow. The downloadable walking tour for music lovers with a sense of adventure is available NOW for smart phones and MP3 players.

From grand halls to hidden bars, popular venues and clubs, Jim Gellatly, Scottish radio presenter and DJ, leads you round Britain’s first UNESCO City of Music exploring the sights and sounds of over 100 years of Glasgow’s rich, diverse and world famous musical heritage.

Available to download for iPhone and Android phones and MP3 players via the Walking Heads website www.walkingheads.net, iTunes App store, and Android market the tour features interviews with Vic Galloway, Billy Sloan, Stuart Braithwaite from Mogwai, Emma Pollock, Greg Kane from Hue & Cry and loads more. The tour is the definitive story of Glasgows music heritage and takes you to the musical heart and soul of the city.

The iPhone and Android App which costs £1.99 to download has four individual routes to explore. Experience the full story, listen to the musicians and DJ’s sharing their tales, access maps, buy tickets and even discover special offers at some of the venues en route. Each section can also be purchased individually for 59p via Google.

Whilst celebrating the tours’ launch at one of Glasgow’s most famous music venues King Tut’s, Jim Gellatly said “Glasgow’s got such a rich heritage of rock and pop. Being involved in the research through to recording on location, The Walking Heads Music Tour gives a fascinating insight into Scotland’s musical capital. From Glasgow’s oldest bar through to newer venues, it’s a comprehensive guide to Glasgow’s music heritage. I’m delighted to put my name to this project and I’m really excited about it. The Walking Heads Music Tour isn’t just for tourists. I think locals may be surprised to learn just how much musical history they have around them.”

Dougal Perman, Walking Heads Director adds: ‘This has been an amazing project to work on. The team at Walking Heads is dedicated to researching and delivering tours which are off the beaten track and certainly something you wouldn’t find in any guidebook. We learned so much about the city and have discovered some really interesting facts along the way, Music is part of the DNA of Glasgow and we believe that this tour will be of interest for visitors to the city as well as local residents who want to find out more about the Glasgow music scene.’

While embarking on a journey around the city’s most renowned music haunts and venues including the City Halls, The Old Fruitmarket, the Barrowlands, King Tut’s and The Panoptican, the tour also gives an in-depth look at the city’s architecture and uncovers why the city is revered by musicians and fans alike, across the world.
