"After weeks and weeks of debate between the regional music panel we have finally concluded all nominees. Over the course of this week we will be announcing all 42 each night, how exciting is that!?"

To begin, here are Best Electronic & Best Live Act categories for SAMAs 2012.

About the awards

The Scottish Alternative Music awards are to return for a third year, drawing necessary attention to the Scottish bands and artists that mainstream music tend to ignore.

After the success of last year, with artists such as The La Fontaines and Three Blind Wolves performing, as well as appearances from winners Indian Red Lopez, and nominees Bwani Junction, this year sets to provide a platform as well as well deserved recognition for the hard working and talented members of the Scottish music industry.

Again this year will include live performances from some of the country’s hottest new acts, as well as guest appearances from leading figures in the Scottish music scene.

SAMAs 2012 will run in association with retro clothing store Vintage Guru, which is located on 195 Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow. Roberto Cocozza (VG) states, “Vintage Guru are pleased to be the Main Sponsor of SAMA 2012 following our tradition of supporting up and coming music in Scotland“

“We feel SAMA is a unique opportunity for up and coming unsigned bands to be recognised for their hard work over the year, always ignored by the more conventional music awards ceremonies”

With the introduction of the new category, Best Hip Hop, the SAMAs represent a broad spectrum of themusic that is being produced and distributed across the country.

Founder and Creative Director of the SAMAs, Richy Muirhead says
“Every year the awards are such a buzz, and I see it as a great opportunity to showcase the diversity of the music scene in Scotland, whilst giving artists the chance to forward their career and become even more noticed.”

“This year we are introducing Best Hip Hop Category, Hosting a free Iphone & Andriod Mobile App as well as holding an exclusive launch party at Bar Bloc in Glasgow on Wednesday 8th February.”

SAMAs will also see the return of comedy host, Billy Kirkwood. He explains, “Being involved with the SAMA’s from day one has been a blast, Richy put together some very unique and very much needed bring a bonafide platform to give music artists in Scotland some much needed and deserved recognition, as well giving the community of music fans something to become involved in”

“The night itself is insane and the energy is immense. Ive hosted maybe every type of event imaginable and this ranks up there with one of wildest, craziest...but most fun. Everyone from Nominees to Techs are just charged with such energy you can’t help but have a good time, and gives it real sense of occasion, i love
hosting this show, this is me back for 3rd year and it’s been a delight watching it grow with each passing year!”

There will be a press launch on Thursday 8th February at Bar Bloc Glasgow, with detailed information about nominations, voting, as well as the announcement of who will be performing at the event.
