Read More Wide Days is pleased to announce the line up for this year’s showcase tour which takes on Thursday 12 April, at the end of the two-day music industry conference.
A diverse range of genres including electronica, singer-songwriter, folk and math rock will be represented. And for the first-time the event will feature a foreign band with award-winning, Norwegian teen punks Honningbarna making their debut Scottish appearance.
Opening the programme will be Homework and Honeyblood at Sneaky Pete’s, followed by Michael Cassidy and Quickbeam at The Third Door. Donna Maciocia, Lady North and Honningbarna will play at Electric Circus, which will also host the closing party. All gigs are free and fans can simply order tickets for the act they want to see at www.widedays.com/tickets. For artist information see www.widedays.com/artists.
“The Wide Days gig programme is a great way of bringing the public and the conference delegates together,” says the event’s co-organiser Olaf Furniss. “It allows us to showcase exciting talent and some of the venues which act as incubators in the Scottish music scene. I am delighted to be able to include an international act for the first time and hope that this will help build on past collaborations with the Norwegian music scene.”
In 2011 the Wide Days programme included Withered Hand, Rachel Sermanni and PAWS, with all acts going on to achieve wider recognition.
Acts are selected based on a combination of factors including recommendations from promoters, bloggers and DJs, the personal tastes of organisers and artists being in a position to capitalise on the opportunity.
This year’s Wide Days conference takes place at Edinburgh’s Teviot Row House on April 11-12 and includes seminars about A&R, getting gigs abroad, promoting destinations through music and music hotels. Confirmed speakers include Alex Knight, whose Fat Cat label signed Frightened Rabbit, Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks and PAWS.
Anna Hildur, the recently appointed head of Nordic Music Export and head of Iceland’s You Are In Control creative industries conference will explain how music and tourism sectors can work more closely. Mike Shorter and musician Tommy Perman will demonstrate instrument innovations as part of the Just Around The Corner panel.
Tickets for the Wide Days conference begin at £20 for under 18s, with discounts for students and members of the Musicians Union.
