May 27th sees the return of Glasgow based Sparrow and the Workshop’s third album; Murderopolis through independent label Song, by Toad Records.
The trio bring plenty of vigour, and a marked evolution of their sound, to their latest record, ‘Murderopolis’, following on from the rambunctious offering of ‘Shock Shock’, the first single taken from the album.
Showcasing a darker tone, ‘Murderopolis’ continues to illustrate the musicianship and passion that are intrinsic to Sparrow and the Workshop’s creative output.
The cacophonous guitar and bass lines and pounding drum beats of ‘Darkness’, ‘The Faster You Spin’ and recent single ‘Shock Shock’ emphasise the fact that Sparrow and the Workshop can truly pack a ferocious punch. Contrasting with these are the haunting melodies of ‘Odessa’, ‘Water Won’t Fall’ and album closer ‘Happy Days’, flaunting the trio’s versatility, yet even these tracks build up to an unrelenting crescendo.
Threading the musicality of the record together are the rousing vocals of Jill O’Sullivan - often compared to PJ Harvey and EmmyLou Harris, but with undertones of punk aggression.
Having supported the likes of Brian Jonestown Massacre, British Sea Power, the Lemonheads and Thee Oh Sees and taken to the stage at Glastonbury, Green Man and Bestival to name a few, the band are seasoned performers, and for your chance to catch their exhilarating live show, keep an eye on their website: www.sparrowandtheworkshop.co.uk
‘Murderopolis’ will be released on May 27th through Song, By Toad Records.
Sparrow and the Workshop are Jill O’Sullivan (vocals & acoustic guitar), Nick Packer (guitar, bass, basstard) and Gregor Donaldson (drums).
