"Brilliant - a massive mix" Zane Lowe, BBC Radio 1
"The band have captured hearts, and with any luck, theyll soon be after yours too" NME
On May 20th the hotly-tipped Scottish four-piece Discopolis present new single ‘Falling (Committed To Sparkle Motion)’, which was produced by Axwell - owner of Axtone records and formerly of the global chart-toppers Swedish House Mafia.
Inspired by the cult classic film Donnie Darko, ‘Falling…’ is a glistening, emotive and anthemic synth-driven gem, destined to smash both dancefloors and charts alike, having already won the patronage of Zane Lowe, who recently debuted the track on his BBC Radio 1 show.
Axwell first heard the Scottish band when their debut single Lofty Ambitions was playlisted on Radio 1’s ‘BBC introducing’ show, which also lead to the bands festival debut, playing the Introducing stage at both Reading and Leeds festivals.
Discopolis have garnered extensive Radio 1 support from ‘BBC Introducing’, plus plays by Nick Grimshaw, Pete Tong and Rob Da Bank. They’ve supported Friendly Fires, Wild Beasts, Metronomy, Simian Mobile Disco, Django Django and Matthew Dear, and remixed The Wombats, Paper Crows, Diagrams, Miaoux Miaoux and Airship.
‘Falling…’ marks a change in style from the commercial pop-dance that Swedish House Mafia are synonymous with, and highlights Axwell’s deft talent at credible production, augmenting and gently coaxing new shapes and sounds from the original, without losing its essence..
Axtone records have made previous forays into more alternative output, having released a remix of Miike Snow’s The Wave in 2012, plus, Axwell himself has long been associated with remixing bands, including Coldplay and Temper Trap.
‘Falling…’ also comes with Discopolis’ own sparkling and elegant mix, plus DubVision’s pounding, peak-time mix, which was a staple in Swedish House Mafia sets, and also won support from Tiesto, David Guetta, Nicky Romero and Avicii, gaining over 400,000 plays on YouTube to date.
Discopolis live in Edinburgh and consist of school friends Fergus Cook, Laurie Corlett-Donald and Dave Lloyd, plus the recently-added drummer Cat Myers.
