About the Album: Super. Sexy. Heartbreak. is a testament to Mary Spenders dedication to her craft and her fans. The album showcases her sultry, jazz-influenced voice, confessional lyrics, and intricate fingerstyle guitar technique. Combining elements of Blues, Rock, Folk, and Americana, the album offers a timeless sound that resonates deeply with listeners.
Mary took a bold stand against the modern devaluation of music by prioritising physical formats over streaming services like Spotify. The album was initially released track-by-track on her YouTube Channel over eleven months, culminating in todays full release. Fans can also enjoy the album in CD, Vinyl, and cassette formats, celebrating the tangible value of music.
In an album launch video, Setting the Record Straight, Mary shares advice to fellow musicians on how using Kevin Kellys Rule of One Thousand True Fans principle, and self-producing physical formats like CDs and Vinyl, can help build a sustainable career in music. Success as a 21st Century Musician should not be dictated by Big Tech platforms like Spotify.
'Super. Sexy. Heartbreak' is written and performed by Mary Spender and produced by Pau Romero (BeatGarden Studios, Barcelona).
The album features Aaron Sterling on drums (John Mayer/Taylor Swift/Fiona Apple/Keith Urban) and Sean Hurley on bass (John Mayer/Lana Del Rey/Jason Mraz/Alanis Morissette), with a guest appearance from Ariel Posen (a modern-day guitar hero Rolling Stone).
Highlights on the new album include 'You Can Have Chicago', 'I Blame Myself', 'One to the West Coast' and 'Wake Up To You'.
The album has been funded entirely through Patreon, with no labels, middlemen or management, just Mary and her true fans.
Marys YouTube videos on life as a 21st century musician have surpassed 94 million views.
