Admiral Fallow support The Futureheads

Admiral Fallow (formerly Brother Louis Collective) release their bittersweet debut album Boots Met My Face and support The Futureheads at the Oran Mor on Thursday April 29th. If you havent got a copy of their album yet I would advise you go get one. Its really good - personal favourite for me is Squealing Pigs

Recorded and produced by award winning producer Paul Savage at the renowned Glasgow studio Chem 19. Admiral Fallow is the latest stunning artist whose most recent album Boots Met My Face has been produced at Chem 19, a list that in 2009 alone includes Phantom Band, Twilight Sad, King Creosote and Idlewild. Savage also recorded the latest Franz Ferdinand album.

Admiral Fallow were born in 2006 out of early student days in Glasgow and performed until recently as Brother Louis Collective. A gathering of precocious talent fronted by the young foot-stamping, faintly maniacal singer/song-writer Louis Abbott. The band meld clarinet, flute, double bass and two jaw-dropping voices to the usual indie line-up to deliver their joyous, heart-filled, orchestral and beautifully eccentric and well crafted songs. They are fiercely proud of their roots with Abbott’s Scottish accent to the fore in his singing, contrasting magically with the Northumbrian tones of Sarah Hayes, the second vocalist.

Their sets go from simple voice and guitar compositions, through stomping Wilco-esque tunes to riotous cacophonies of white noise; these songs about alienation within relationships and youth itself are sung and screamed with utter abandon while the band work themselves into a furious frenzy. Fyfe Dangerfield of the Guillemots has supported and lauded this exceptional band since their formation, personally asking for them to open for the Guillemots in Glasgow and Edinburgh on their Scottish tours. Their live show has lead to quotes such as “an apocalyptic closing section, which reminded these aged ears, at least, of early King Crimson at their finest” Herald Scotland

The band’s reputation quickly spread amongst promoters in 2008, culminating in their receiving the King Tut’s “Your Sound” artist of the month award and making their second appearance at the Connect Festival. Headline slots at Nice and Sleazys and Oran Mor in Glasgow and The Caves in Edinburgh followed. A 5 star gig review in The Sunday Mail, a single on Euphonios Records and Gideon Coe airplay on BBC 6 Music were soon under their belts.

2009 saw the band headline the T Break stage at T in the Park as well as winning the Scotsman “under the Radar” award. A busy year was completed when Admiral Fallow began recording Boots Met My Face at Chem 19, with Paul Savage at the controls and supported financially by the Scottish Arts Council. Fast forward to April 2010, the band has just finished a UK tour promoting the album.

Lead singer Louis Abbott gives an idea of what fans can expect of the album when he says, “All of the songs document the first chapter of my life, be it memories from school or kicking a ball about with my childhood chums. All of the songs are taken from real life events. Theres no fiction. Im not into making up stories or characters for the sake of trying to stir emotions. They are songs about friends and family as well as a fair bit of self-evaluation.”
