Applications now open for the Young Scottish Jazz Musician 2011
The Scottish Jazz Federation (SJF), with financial assistance from Creative Scotland and Carntyne Trust, invite applications for the 2011 Young Scottish Jazz Musician (YSJM).
The competition is organized, managed and produced by the Scottish Jazz Federation in collaboration with Glasgow International Jazz Festival, Queens Hall Edinburgh and BBC Radio Scotland. Our main sponsors are Creative Scotland.
The overall winner will hold the title for a year with the opportunity to perform and to represent the best of what Scotland has to offer both at home and further a field.
This year’s Final is to be hosted by Glasgow International Jazz Festival at the Old Fruitmarket on Wednesday 29 June 2011 and, based on experience from the past 4 competitions, will bring together the most talented of all young Scottish Jazz musicians.
Interested musicians should be 23 or under on 1 April 2011 and have a residential address in Scotland. This year will have an additional category for under 17s this year as well as the chance to win the main title. The preliminary round will be a blind adjudication. The panel will not know which applicant they are listening to.
The live semi final will be held at the Queens Hall Edinburgh on 29th May. The Final will be on Wednesday 29th June during Glasgow International Jazz Festival and will be broadcast live by BBC Radio Scotland for the Jazz House (92-95 FM , Digital and Online) and available to Listen Again via the i-Player for up to seven days after original broadcast.
