Folk-Noir pioneers The Dead Man’s Waltz present:
Story’s End – A Feature Length Festival of Death and Storytelling

To mark the opening night of The Glasgow Short Film Festival 2013, The Dead Man’s Waltz are presenting a night celebrating Death and The Story, featuring live storytelling by award-winning author Hal Duncan, new film and animation work by Johnny Barrington (Tumult, 2012, nominated for Best Short at the forthcoming 2013 BAFTAs) and Mark Weallans, and incorporating art and illustration by Kate McMorrine and Cat Ingall. The evening will also feature new music by The Dead Man’s Waltz and a guest appearance from Glasgow singer and artist Louise McVey.

Following on from previous experimental performances, including a theatre production in an abandoned ice-cream van depot and a seven hour residency in a festival absynth yurt, “Story’s End” marks a movement to the next level for The Dead Man’s Waltz. The event will use the various talents of the artists involved to explore the role of death in storytelling.

The Dead Man’s Waltz released their debut album in October 2011 to wide critical acclaim. The Scotsman said, “The Dead Man’s Waltz find the common ground between the bleak tragedy of the island folk ballads and the more flamboyant execution of the European cabaret tradition,” and Is This Music? called them "One of the most interesting and experimental bands around".

They have performed at a broad range of festivals including a series of experimental installations at The Insider (2009 – 2012), The Arran Folk Festival and “Death: A Festival For The Living” at the Southbank Centre. They have also supported international touring artists such as Devon Sproule, The Black Heart Procession and Franz Nicolay (Guignol/The Hold Steady).

Hal Duncan’s first novel “Vellum” was nominated for the 2006 World Fantasy Award and won the 2007 Spectrum Award. Johnny Barrington’s latest short film “Tumult” was produced by Young Films and was selected for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. It is currently nominated for Best Short Film at the forthcoming BAFTAs.

Story’s End is being developed under investment from Creative Scotland.
