The song may have its roots in the floor-filling Northern Soul of the 70’s but, aided by the production skills of Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Blinders, The Sherlocks,Ocean Colour Scene), “Long Long Gone” will satisfy lovers of many genres.
Backed by a driving bass, swirling synths and a horn line you won’t stop humming for days, Nick’s menacing lyrics of jealousy and obsession, delivered in his unmistakable Southern twang, make “Long Long Gone” a compelling if disquieting experience. “Long Long Gone” will be released across all digital platforms on 10th April alongside a limited edition 7”vinyl, available for preorder now.
Until February 2018, Nick was the singer and main songwriter of New Street Adventure, who released two albums on the legendary Acid Jazz label: “No Hard Feelings” in 2014 and “Stubborn Sons” in 2017.
Nick was brought up with soul music constantly playing in the background, thanks to his Father’s love for the genre and obsessive collecting of rare records. An early visit to London’s iconic 100 Club for a Northern Soul all-nighter inspired Nick to pen “The Big A.C”, a tribute to what Nick saw as “the ultimate underground”, and which went on to become NSA’s best-loved song.
Over the years the band received critical acclaim from the likes of Q Magazine (4/5 stars for album two) and The Guardian’s Tim Jonze, who praised Nick as having “an innate understanding of classic soul songwriting”. Despite the soulful roots in Nick’s music, his voice remains distinctive and unmistakable. Q’s Paul Moody referred to him as “a mod Mike Skinner”, whilst comparisons to Paul Weller and, more recently, Tom Misch have frequently been made.
