Read More 6th January - Rising Scottish pop star Christy ODonnell has today shared his latest single Without You, out now via Decca Records, accompanied by a stunning acoustic music video. Watch here.
The video for Without You sees Christy return to Peckham Liberal Club (where the video for previous single In Denial was also shot) - but this time, completely stripped back and fully acoustic. Detailing a love lost layered over blissful guitar strums, the track shows off a delicate vulnerability and further emphasises Christys astonishing vocal range.
Christy says of the track: "Without You is the last goodbye to someone. Realising its finally done and accepting that you wont be able to see them again. I was pretty heartbroken when I wrote this song, I recorded the vocal in one take, very intimate and almost in tears and I think thats what brought a lot of the magic to the song"
Lets get a flavour of Christys story so far: expelled from school when his teachers didnt believe this dyslexic youngster had written a piece of music so proficient it could be his own work (the school eventually apologised, and he left anyway); at 16 hed earn hundreds of pounds a day busking in Glasgow, with his party trick of playing note-perfect requests from a few bars off a mobile phone; being cast as the lead in a movie after a random meeting with an acting agent; meeting Rufus Wainwright after a gig in Perth and being invited to tour Europe with him; an online relationship with a famous actress; TikTok fame for trying on a wedding dress; and now, signing a deal with legendary label Decca and forging a path as one of the sounds of 2023.
By taking a chance, having a punt and betting on his own talent with an open mind to the possibilities, Christy is the definition of making your own luck. Or, as he puts it: "Ive always felt that if you believe something is going to happen, itll happen."
