I wont be missing their next live show.

It is a Friday night in Glasgow, and a throwback to a time in the early 00s of many Indie Discos across the city.

So it is apt that Razorlight open tonights Hydro show, and raise a nostalgic smile with some Radio friendly Indie hits. They seem to have mellowed out a bit in their older age, and it is a nice wayu to warm up for tonights main event.

During Lockdown, I fell in love with James! "Getting Away With It (All Messed Up) became my anthem in that time along with around 3 other songs, it was a daily listen! So tonight was the first time I would actually see the band.

Then they came on stage, to a rapturous crescendo with the opener Shes a Star, from here we knew we were in for a treat.

Next up Tomorrow heavily backed by 2 drummers really showed tonight was also going to be loud!
How many ways can we kill ourselves - fucked up the world for the future

The band numbering 13 people headed by Tim Booth, were on fire. Born of Frustration started a huge singalong with nearly 14000 people signing "Wooooowooooowoooowooo" together.

After the singing it was time for a dance and no better than to do that to Waltzing Along
"May your mind be wide open
May your heart beat strong
May your minds will be broken
By this heartfelt song...

...May your mind set you free"

Tonight we are all free!

As a live spectacle I expected a good show, though suddenly this was going into one of my favourite gigs of all time.
Backed by Booth jumping into the crowd and going surfing! You could tell he was loving the Glasgow crowd.

Then it happened!!

The opening chords of "Getting Away With It" kicked in! I was up off my seat and sang back at the band at the top of my voice - it was a feeling of absolute joy. A euphoria as I stood and screamed this anthem!

The lyrics really capture the essence of enjoying life, and how to bounce back - probably why it became my anthem for a time I hope never to go back to.

James really encapsulate this feeling tonight with many heartfelt lyrics about mental health, and support for others.

"Those who feel a breath of sadness, sit down next to me"

"Sit Down the bands biggest and most well known anthem arguably, anthem captures this - with Larry Gott onece saying "One of those songs that encourages people to put their arms around strangers" and Glasgow certainly does this as it comes on, we are all together.

"Those who feel theyre touched by madness, sit down next to me"

Everyone in here singing along to a song that had you running to the dancefloor in the 90s and early 00s. We are all transported back to that club!

"Those who find themselves ridiculous, sit down next to me."

Both these songs bookmarked "Just Like Fred Astaire, where we see Booth going out on a massive crowd surf - hes miles away from the stage

The Manchester Orchestra come on during "Sometimes" to add a real touch of class to the song, and is a beautiful way to end this part of the set.

A heads up to the band as we witness amazing musicianship with long Violin intros, choruses from the orchestra, and an incredible double drum solo.
We are even treated to a time of peak Madchester at one point towards the end, all we needed was an "Aaarrkiddd."

"Laid" likely / arguably the bands most well known hit ;) has the full Glasgow Orchestra and choir of every single person in the Hydro going crazy! There will be a few sore throats tomorrow, though definitely worth it.

The atmosphere as we leave is one that puts everyone into a great mood, with many people smiling, talking about their favourite moments, then singing along through the red tunnel as we all head into the night.

The weekend for friends of mine, and myself was listening to the back catalogue, I wont be missing their next live show.
