What felt like the warm-up trail for the massive Oasis summer shows, Festivals, and gigs all over this great city, Ocean Colour Scene rolled into Glas
Read MoreIt was January and everyone was looking forward to seeing live music again after the festive break concluded, and what better way to start everyone off with 2 heavy metal pioneers, Bullet For My Valentine and Trivium at Glasgows premier venue, the OVO Hydro.
The Welsh and American heavy metal acts joined forces to celebrate 20 years of their respective albums (The Poisioned and Ascendancy) by announcing the Poisioned Ascendancy tour, performing in many parts of the UK, starting in BFMVs native Wales before finishing off the tour in London on Saturday.
Bullet For My Valentine (and the 'hell hole')
The set up of the venue was that of a typical heavy metal gig, with an extra area known as the "hell hole" present, spectators with that extra bit of cash were able to get an unique perspective of the performances watching from behind the platform, everyone was psyched and looking forward to a night of head banging.
Special guest Orbit Culture gave the audience a taste of what was to follow and Bullet For My Valentine was first up as the co-headliners, playing their entire debut album in full. Matt Tucks vocals were a highlight, with his signature growls and soaring cleans filling the entire venue. The energy and the guitar work was absolutely blistering, with Michael Paget and Padges dual attack shredding through each song with precision and power. The rhythm section of Jamie Mathias on bass and Jason Bowld on drums provided a rock-solid combination, driving the music forward with ferocious force. The Hydro was not sold out on the night but that did not mean that the security guards in the stage pit were in for an easy shift, as they had to deal with a massive flood of crowd surfers, the crowd definitely illustrated their adrenaline levels during the set.
Crowd surfers were aplenty at the show, it was a busy shift for all of the stewards.
Next up was Trivium, who played the entire Ascendancy album during their set which turns 20 this year, Heafys stage presence was magnetic, engaging with the crowd throughout the show and not to mention that trademark "tongue out" pose. Like Bullet For The Valentine the guitar work was technically brilliant, with Trivium showcasing impressive speed and skill. Paolo Gregolettos bass lines provided a powerful foundation, while Alex Bents drumming was relentless. The crowd also drank it all in and they continued to crowd surf, making the lives of the security guards a living nightmare.
Trivium
All in all this gig lived up to the hype, all bands put all they got into the performance and the roof was almost blown off the venue. Long story short, it was 4 hours of utter mayhem.
