Beci Wallace & Steg G - After the Fog... Aired.

I cant recommend this album enough.

The Eagerly Awaited 2025 Album from Glasgow Artists Becci Wallace and Steg G is about to grace your ears on? was the fans anticipation and expectations worth the wait? Have they excelled themselves this time? Read on to find out!

This album has been in the works since 2022. Feeling very proud having come out the other side of lockdown, this album was a cathartic self help sound booklet. Described as "10 Tips for a Better You". Becci wanted the album to sound fresh and different, with a more professional production edge with a lighter vibe. Having teamed up with the Glasgow Hip Hop legend and producer Steg G and the very talented Jonni Slater, the trio set to work to make an "industry" release.

When Becci set her pen to paper creating this album, she was in a " 5 Tips To Fix Your Life" mode, a lyrical superhero on her journey to save the world with her words! After surviving covid, earning a PHD and bagging herself a full time post as a lecturer, she was elevated and feeling a little bit "smug" (in her own words). As the process progressed things changed and as described by Becci as a "Visceral Downfall". Working on this album Beccis mindset changed drastically, the "Im fixed let me fix you" mindset, switched to, "I need guidance, its me that needs help". The aftermath of the lockdown hit her, as it did with many of us. This idea that Becci originally had, to burst out and sing songs about other peoples journeys, soon became the opposite as she went on her own healing journey instead.

This becomes quite prevalent as you get deeper into the album, you hear her humility and feel her healing as you listen.

The first track I chose to listen to was the title track "AFTER THE FOG" This track starts off strong and sounds like a mixture of Enya and Martika. I felt this song, and the line that got me the most was "Another Summer Lost To The Screen Again" That hit like a brick and made me think of my own life and the limited time we have as humans and how we frivolously waste such a valuable asset. Its a hard hitting song, one that gently punctures your heart and tugs at the tear ducts, it was written for all of those who emerged from lockdown who had stopped trusting.

The second track was "YOU GIVE ME MORE" This has a Sunday School vibe at the beginning, the music sounds like a modern organ and piano played in conjunction, which is then nicely interrupted with a drum beat and Beccis signature Scottish lyrical vocals. This is a storytelling track about gratitude, being grateful for the memories of yesteryear, when life was free and wild, reflecting on her own misspent youth and city streets that held those secrets?

The third track I chose was called "THE WOOD BETWEEN THE WORLD" This is a beautiful track?.Raw, emotional and just so good! The lyrics in this song pull on those emotional strings once again, this track had me reflecting. This song is about feeling, being real and it takes you on a real journey. Yes Becci, I would board your boat, because, feeling is raw and real. This is a fantastic track. Becci herself describes this and a "Yo Ho" ship doom scroll meets Narnia, it all makes sense once you listen. YOU NEED TO BOARD THAT BOAT!

Moving on to the end of the album I listened to the next two tracks.

"OBLIGATORY LOVE SONG" This is utterly gorgeous... .Very different vibe to the other tracks. Orchestral, haunting, and very powerful at the beginning, a personal song of past loves, tinged with hopelessness and heartache. The ending gives you hope that true love will conquer all? That a family can be born from finding our identities, finding our person and healing as a team, and like the song, uplifting to conquer all. Becci, I adore this song and at this point, its my favorite from the album.

Reluctantly listening to another, because like eating your favourite foods, you dont want to lose the flavoursome after taste, well my ears dont want to lose the sound of that last song. But, I will listen to one more, as I am enjoying the lucky bag of sounds and emotions this album serves up!

The last track will be the final song on the album called " SMART WORDS." This is a very personal song, you can hear Becci has gone through her own personal healing in this track. Listening to this track made me think about my own journey. How we dont realise that we change and that can be difficult for those around us. They are so used to the unhealed version of us, when the healing process begins, a stranger moves into our being. You think differently, you react differently, you communicate differently, you become the better version of you, but those who fell in love with the unhealed you, see the world around them differently. This song proves that it takes two to make a relationship, it takes two to break a relationship and it takes two to rebuild it back up again, because the one thing that hasnt changed is their love language. This track was written for Beccis husband Darren, and is just beautiful?

This is a great album, its raw, its real, and it really makes you think. There is not one bad track on this album, as soon as the first track starts, be prepared to go on an emotional rollercoaster. After the past few years and the continual cycle of stress that we the public live in, as part of a forced environmental shift, we all need a little healing, and artists like Becci help to promote self awareness and healing. The "its ok, not to be ok" mantra is loud and clear in her latest work. This album is a means of escape, a way of grounding yourself and feeling part of something. Becci and Steg have surpassed themselves with this work and should be very proud of their album, its a true reflection of their hard work.

I had the privilege of seeing them perform this album live in Govan last week, where we were introduced to the very talented Jonni Slater on keyboard. Jonni also delivered the haunting backing vocals which complemented Beccis vocals perfectly. The trio put on a great show and I am so glad I was there to experience it, the live performance sounded just as good as they do on the album. I cant recommend this album enough.
