Papa Roach - OVO Hydro 01/11/2026

The golden era of Nu Metal Time Machine.

Papa Roach launched onto the stage with an intense energy that was to be maintained throughout their performance, and what an honour it was to watch a band formed more than 33 years ago still performing live on stage with such gusto. The self-classified nu-metal and alternative rock band looked like they have barely aged in the meantime.

The stage set up was in a classic, slightly gothic black with black lights. The sound was loud, clear and hardcore from the outset, with the Hydro packed with an audience excited for a great night to come.

The on-stage banter and repertoire was delivered with frenetic vigour from the outset, fans clapping with mirrored enthusiasm, heads banging and "ready" for the energy to come! "Glasgow, do you feel ready and alive with Papa Roach?" - as they rap-rocked away on stage.

"Do you love that sh*t?" Jacoby asked the audience if they were ready to take this show to the next level as they sang Liar. Coining the phrase Nu Metal Time Machine to celebrate their early style, Jacoby Shaddix decided to join and interact with the audience to ask if there were any Korn fans, before playing the grungey yet punchy song BRAINDEAD.

Midway through Between Angels and Insects Jacoby forgot the lyrics. Laughing it off, he announced f**k it, he will rejoin in the chorus. Subtley done!

Then Jacoby casually, and in the broadest Scottish accent, asked the audience " are you guys awright??!" as they played Blind.

The unexpected Prodigy cover " Firestarter" certainly got the audience jumping and head banging. The usual "no Scotland no party" chant went on as they played the viral "Break Stuff" from Limp Bizkit mixed in with System Of a Downs "Chop Suey".

Papa Roach finished off with the lead single "Last Resort" from their breakthrough album Infest. A song, now over 25 years old, dealing with mental health issues and hope at the same time. It was clear from the audience participation its something we all had to deal with at some point in our lives. Until next time, Glasgow and see you soon were the final words of Papa Roach. It just shows real feelings, emotions and talent can be sustained with strength spanning over 3 decades. The Nu Metal Time Machines enduring medley of melodic hard rock, high energy and resilience lives on.
